Job hunting after 40

Day 166 without a job.

For my own amusement, I track my resumes and their results for display in a decision tree. It’s something of a reality check that becomes all the more frustrating as I’m used to my skills being in demand.

As of today, 38.7% of my submitted resumes get me an interview, but exactly zero have gotten me a job. In at least two of those interviews, I was told that part of my job would be covering the skills gap of my immediate supervisor. I’ve had jobs like that before and I know that as soon as I’m done training them how their job is done, so is their use for me. Such is how the game is played.

Fewer than half of potential employers acknowledged receiving a resume and fewer than one-quarter notified me of their selecting another candidate.
